A city with multiple bridges
Haskoning UK’s Integrated Transport Planning (ITP) team has expanded its transport modelling capability with the appointment of a five-strong team of transport planners with deep expertise in Aimsun modelling. This  marks a significant step in the development of a dedicated modelling service line focused on vision-led, sustainable transport planning outcomes.

The new team, led by Andrew Bradshaw in Nottingham, strengthens ITP’s ability to provide robust, scenario-led forecasting and modelling services that support evidence-based decision-making across a wide range of transport and development projects.

Andrew is joined by Associates Dan Heptinstall and James Brierley, alongside Consultants Lars Belsnes and Joseph Webster.

Enhancing our service offering

The expansion broadens ITP’s existing transport strategy, major infrastructure planning, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), local public transport planning and highway design offer to established clients across the UK.

The new modelling team will work closely with colleagues across these disciplines to add value to projects ranging from Local Plan Transport Assessments, parking strategies, bus priority and road space reallocation scheme design and appraisal, to transport scheme business cases, urban regeneration projects and transformative large-scale development proposals.

Through this integrated approach, the team will help deliver improved connectivity and sustainable mobility outcomes for existing and future communities.

At the heart of the team's work will be robust, proportionate and defensible scenario-led forecasts that underpin the evidence-based designs, proposals and strategies developed with clients.

The appointments complement ITP’s existing junction and microsimulation (Vissim) modelling capabilities, taking them to the next level through enhanced multi-modal assessment of transport-system and land-use changes across active travel, public transport and motorised vehicle networks.

The expanded modelling capability will support both existing client commissions and new opportunities, helping clients better understand the impacts of future mobility, growth and land-use scenarios while aligning with Haskoning’s sustainable mobility focus.

Close collaboration with Haskoning teams

The new transport modelling team will collaborate closely with colleagues across the UK business, including Ports, Maritime, Environment, Renewables, Resilience and Industry & Buildings, as well as transport modelling specialists based in the Netherlands.

This provides a unique opportunity for joint working and knowledge-sharing with leading Dutch transport modellers who specialise in Aimsun tools and associated customisations and scripts. These teams develop and deploy Aimsun travel demand and trip assignment models on projects across the world, working across micro, meso and macroscopic scales.

The team will also benefit from Haskoning’s market-leading digital twin and simulation capabilities, which have already been successfully combined with transport expertise for UK clients.

Strengthening our modelling expertise

I'm excited to be joining Haskoning alongside a talented team of Aimsun modellers as we expand ITP’s modelling capabilities. By combining robust, scenario-led forecasting with close collaboration across the UK and the Netherlands, we will be able to help clients better understand future mobility challenges and shape sustainable transport solutions. The breadth of expertise across the team, together with Haskoning's wider transport and digital capabilities, creates a fantastic opportunity to deliver real value for clients and contribute to more sustainable outcomes.
