A city with multiple bridges

We’re initially seeking 2-3 well-rounded specialists who bring broad knowledge of the UK market for transport planning and modelling, and are interested in developing their expertise in a supportive environment. Over time we envisage growing our capability through ongoing project work and the coaching and development of talented Graduates and Consultants.

Linking ITP’s existing disciplines to enhance our capabilities

This exciting opportunity will help Haskoning, and our UK-based transport planning team (ITP), broaden our existing transport strategy, major infrastructure planning, EIA, local public transport planning, and highway design offer to established clients.

We foresee our transport modellers working across these disciplines to add value to projects ranging from Local Plan Transport Assessments, parking strategies, bus priority and road space reallocation scheme design and appraisal, transport scheme business cases, urban regeneration projects and transformative large-scale development proposals – all with scope to significantly improve connectivity for new and existing inhabitants of the places we help to shape.

At the heart of your work will be robust, proportionate and defensible scenario-led forecasts that underpin the evidence-based designs, proposals and strategies we collaborate with our clients to develop and implement. Your involvement will complement our existing junction and microsimulation (Vissim) modelling capabilities – taking them to the next level by introducing multi-modal consideration of the holistic impacts of transport system and land-use changes on active travel, public transport, and motorised vehicle trips and route choices.

Our modelling service line will generate work from existing clients and projects here in the UK, with an expectation they also bring established ‘trusted advisor’ relationships with new (to us) client organisations, whose objectives and desired outcomes align with our group’s sustainable mobility focus.

Collaboration with Dutch transport modelling and digital simulation experts

From an embedded position within our Advisory Group, our transport modellers already collaborate with other business lines in the UK (notably our Ports, Maritime, Environment, Renewables, Resilience and Industry & Buildings) and colleagues in the Netherlands – where Haskoning is headquartered globally.

Uniquely, we offer the opportunity for joint working and knowledge-sharing with leading Dutch transport modellers who specialise in using Aimsun tools – including our own customisations and scripts built around the software. They develop and deploy Aimsun travel demand and trip assignment models on projects across the world (particularly in the Netherlands), working across the spectrum of micro, meso, and macroscopic scales.

We also have market leading digital twin and simulation capabilities predominantly focused on industrial processes and port operations, but which we have successfully combined with our transport domain knowledge for UK clients. We look forward to exploring opportunities for deeper collaboration with transport modelling capabilities as they develop.

If you are interested in any of the following roles, then please get in touch with Jim Bradley, for an informal conversation or visit our careers page below to apply for these new roles.
